The name aquamarine comes from the Latin: 'Aqua Marinus' which means 'Water of the sea'. A very appropriate name for a mineral that bears the colors of the ocean.
Family of the Emerald
Aquamarine is a variety of Beryl. Green-blue to light-blue beryls are called aquamarine. The same family also includes the Smaragd (green) and the golden beril (yellow). In Christianity, the aquamarine is associated with Mary and images are often adorned with this gemstone.
Legend has it that Aquamarine came from mermaids and is said to lead to unconditional love. Seafarers wore the stone to protect themselves on their dangerous journeys where it would also help against seasickness.
Effect of Aquamarine
Aquamarine is said to aid in speaking. This can be public speaking or speaking yourself out. It is also an ideal travel stone and helps with fear of flying or fear of water. As a love stone, aquamarine is the helper in finding harmony between people.
