Beautiful black tourmaline

The black tourmaline is also called Schorl. Schorl, unlike other tourmalines, is opaque and often deep black. The tourmaline owes this dark color to the many iron compounds that occur in this mineral.

Stone of the mixed colors

Tourmaline has been known in the Mediterranean since ancient times. In Western Europe the stone gained popularity in 1703 when the Dutch brought this stone from Sri Lanka. The stone was given the name 'Turmali'. In Sinhala this means: 'Stone of the mixed colors'. The Black variant is the most common tourmaline.
