Information
Fossil from Wyoming
This fossil shrimp is around 50 million years old and was found in the Green River formation in Wyoming USA. This place is known for its beautiful fossil prints of fish. But these are certainly not the only marine animals found here.
Bechleja rostrata
This shrimp belongs to the extinct species Bechleja rostrata that lived in the Eocene in a vast lake. Due to alternating rain and dry periods, a layer of sediment was added to the bottom of the lake every year. In Wyoming 6 million years of uninterrupted sediment have been found.
Knowledge
The female shrimp kept the fertilized eggs between the swimming legs to which they stuck until they hatched.
