Ammonite necklace pendants
Prehistoric ammonites
Ammonites were a group of cephalopods to which the current squid and nautilus belong. Nowadays the squid has its shell inside, but the Ammonites still had their shell outside the body, just like the nautilus.
Ammonite as a piece of jewelry
Ammonites also lend themselves well as beautiful jewellery. Cut ammonites from Madagascar where all the individual chambers are nicely visible, the polished ammonites from Morocco or the beautiful German pyrite ammonites. Each pendant is unique and tells its own story of these prehistoric creatures.
Ammonite naming
The name of the ammonites is derived from the Egyptian and Greek god 'Amon'. Amon was often depicted with ramshorns. The fossils they found were apparently very similar to these horns, which gave them the name: 'Ammonite'.
