Family of the squid
Ammonites were a group in the marine mollusks where the current squid belongs to. Today, these animals have their shell inside but the Ammonites had their shell outside the body, like snails. Ammonites died about 65 million years ago along with the dinosaurs by a massive meteorite impact.
Shloenbachia sp. from Morocco
The ammonites on this page all come from Morocco. The bigger specimens are of the Shloenbacchia ammonite, this was a large group that lived in the northern hemisphere. At the time there were many different variants with various external characteristics. With this type of ammonite, calcite geodes have been formed in the chambers. By polishing the ammonite, it has been made visible. The Shloenbacchia ammonites lived in the cretaceous and are between 66.0 - 145.0 million years old.
