This red hematite quartz is found in Madagascar. The color varies from light to dark red and is caused by hematite. it appears that the hematite was not present at the beginning of the crystal growth. The crystal started to grow like a clear rock crystal, at a later stage it was mixed with hematite, giving the mineral a red color.

Rare combination

Quartz can be found all over the world and hematite is also common. The combination in which hematite is deposited on clear quartz crystals is a rarity.
