Ice Age in the Netherlands

Ice ages were common in the Pleistocene (2.58 million to 11,700 years ago). Warmer moments were alternated for bitterly cold periods (glacials). The European country was regularly covered by ice and snow. Also in the Netherlands it got bitterly cold with temperatures down to -30c! Yet there was plenty of life to be found on the frozen Dutch soil.

Mammals

The mammals thrive in the alternating warmer and cold periods, often they had a large coat with hair to keep themselves warm. The most famous resident of this time is undoubtedly the woolly mammoth. But there were also aurochs (the predecessors of our cows), Wild boars, (primal) horses, deer and even rhinos.

Set with Dutch history

This set consists of 4 bones from different mammals that lived in the Dutch landscape during the ice age. The bones are provided with stickers with the name of the animal in question. The set includes bones of a wild Horse, aurochs, Wild boar and a Deer. They were fished from the North Sea, which was largely dry at the time. A beautiful piece of Dutch history.
