Libyan desert glass or 'gold Tektite' is natural glass that is found at the border between Egypt and Libya in the desert. It originated about 28 million years ago by a massive meteorite impact. The released heat melted the sand surface into glass. At the time of the Pharaohs, it was seen as a valuable gemstone and even today still highly in demand by collectors.
