Versatility of obsidian

Obsidian is a natural glass that is formed when viscous lava cools quickly and contains little water. It is typically black in color with a glassy sheen. Various inclusions allow obsidian to take on other colors or form patterns. The most famous examples of this are snowflake obsidian, mahogany obsidian or silver obsidian. But it can also lead to the beautiful lamellae and spider web obsidian.

Popular utensil

Due to its glass-like structure and cleavage in sharp edges, obsidian was already a popular rock for the manufacture of arrowheads and sharp tools in ancient times. Utensils made of obsidian have been found on all continents. Ornaments and ornamental objects have also been found in the ancient Aztecs and the ancient Greeks were the first to make obsidian mirrors.
