Uruacu iron meteorite from Brazil
The uruacu is an iron meteorite in the class IAB and contains the rare minerals scheibersite and cohenite. The meteorite is chemically similar to the Campo del Cielo, but its structure is very different. The Uruacu has beautiful parallel Neumann lines, which become visible after etching.
History of the Uruacu
The Uruacu meteorite was first discovered in 1992 near Goias, Brazil. Only four pieces were found by the owner of the land. The first piece weighed 29 kg, the second 25,2 kg, the third 300 g and the fourth 18 kg. Wilson Rezende then continued his search for more than ten years without any luck. Finally, a number of pieces have been found again in recent years.
The total known weight of this meteorite is still quite low and is estimated at about 1500 kg. The purchase of a Uruacu meteorite is therefore a real opportunity for the collector. These meteorites are not offered very often.
