Cinnabar in quartz
Bright red mineral
Cinnabar is a beautiful red mineral that consists of mercury sulphide. Because of its bright red color, cinnabarite has been used as a dye for centuries. Both the Romans and the ancient Chinese used it. Cinnabar is also the most important ore for the extraction of mercury. Be careful with this mineral, do not make elixirs of it and always wash your hands after touching it.
Origin of cinnabar
Cinnabar is a mineral that precipitates from rising fumes as they make their way through fragmented rocks. It forms in relatively shallow places with recent volcanic activity, at a temperature of about 200 degrees.
Dragon blood and merchant stone
Cinnabarite is known as the merchant's stone. The stone gathers wealth for those who keep the stone in sight of its fortune. Because of its red colour and the fact that the stone originates from fire and volcanic activity, cinnabar is also known as dragon blood. These are most popular as red 'drops' in white quartz.
