Development of apache tears
Apache tears are created by hot lava being shot into the air and solidifying again before it hits the ground. This black volcanic glass is also known as obsidian. The apache tears look opaque at first sight but are a bit translucent when held in the light. The colour is usually black but can vary from red to brown. They are often found in a grey-white perite matrix.
Legend of the apache
The name "Apache tear" comes from a legend of the Apache tribe: about 75 Apaches fought the American cavalry on the mountain now called Superior in Arizona in the year 1870. Faced with a defeat the apache, who were in a minority, rode their horses from the mountain into their inevitable death. The wives and families of the warriors cried when they heard of the tragedy. Their tears turned to stone when they hit the ground.
Working of apache tears
Apache Tears have many of the qualities of the common Black Obsidian. This makes apache tears a very grounding and protective stone. The stones are used as a cleaner of negative energies. Not only the negativity one experiences in the environment, but also that of one's own emotions are cleansed. Apache tears help with anger, jealousy, greed and resentment.
