Natural Persian mineral
Turquoise is the blue greenish mineral where the color ‘turquoise’ is named after. The first turquoise was mined in Persia more than 2000 years ago. Because of its beautiful color the stone was soon very popular for making jewelry and amulets.
Name of the mineral
The name turquoise comes from the country 'Turkey'. From Persia the mineral was shipped to Europe through Turkey. Ironically enough, no turquoise has ever been found in Turkey itself. Due to its striking color, the stone soon became the name giver to the color of Turquoise.
These pieces come from Iran (formerly Persia) and are hand polished and flattened on one side. This is the original color of the stone! White howlite is often painted turquoise and sold as such. This is the real Turquoise!
Working of Turquoise
Turquoise is a protective stone and makes you feel happier by being better balanced. It also has a positive influence on creativity. Be aware that the stone easily takes on other substances because of its porous structure. It is better not to clean the stone with water or cleaning agents to avoid discoloration.
