Beautiful pyrite ammonite from Buttenheim Germany
Pyritized ammonite
This ammonite was found in Germany in the town of Buttenheim near Bamberg. The golden brown layer of this ammonite is caused by the iron ore pyrite. During the fossilization of the ammonite, it was not petrified but 'pyritised'.
European ammonite
This ammonite belongs to the Pleuroceras Spinatum family that lived between 190 and 183 million years ago. This species mainly lived in the area where Europe is now located. Ammonites were a group of mollusks living in the sea, which includes the current squid. Today these animals have their shell inside, but the Ammonites still had their shell outside the body, just like snails.
Chambers of the ammonite
The house of the ammonite consists of all rooms. Whenever the hard housing became too small for the animal, a new larger room was built. The animal therefore always lived in the last added room. The empty chambers could be filled with water or gas to travel between the surface and the bottom of the ocean.
Spiritual
Ammonites are very suitable for meditations and healings with their primal power. The ammonite brings the masculine and feminine energy together and creates a sense of unity.
