Turitella agate is a special phenomenon among agates. Volcanic rock is usually the basis for this mineral. But in this case it are the thick layers of snail shells that have made the formation of agate possible. The imprints are very well visible.

What is agate?

Agate is a variant of quartz and a sub-variety of chalcedony, which can be turbid or translucent. Agate forms in cavities through which silicon-rich water flows. This means that a layer is always left behind. These are the characteristic stripes that often appear in agate.

Traditionally, agate was worn as a lucky stone or for healing. There are many amulets and necklaces made of agate, but also consumer items such as buttons. Agate has a medicinal effect, protects during pregnancy and helps against headaches, skin diseases or balance disorders. Agate is also a grounding, stabilizing and protective stone.
