Variability of obsidian
Obsidian is a natural glass that is formed when viscous lava cools quickly and contains little water. It is typically black in colour with a glassy sheen. Because of various inclusions obsidian can also take on other colours or form patterns. The best known examples are snowflake obsidian, mahogany obsidian or silver obsidian. But it can also lead to the beautiful midnight lace and spider web obsidian.
Due to its glassy structure and the splitting into sharp edges, obsidian was already in ancient times a popular rock for the manufacturing of arrowheads and sharp tools. Utensils of obsidian have been found on all continents. The ancient Aztecs also made ornaments and decorative objects from it and the ancient Greeks were the first to make obsidian mirrors.
Obsidian is an grounding stone. It keeps you with both feet on the ground and offers balance between spirituality and the physical earthly reality. Carry obsidian with you for a continuous stream of earthly energy. Obsidian helps against feelings of loneliness and gets you out of isolation. It allows you to see and accept the darker sides of yourself so that it no longer need to influence your daily actions.
