Product description

Silex

About 145,000 years ago, a stone tool industry arose in North Africa. These varied from arrowheads and spearheads to scrapers, scribers and drills. This is called Litic material and is often made of flint with the processed form called Silex.

Atérien

The North African industry from the Middle Stone Age is called Atérien and disappeared about 20,000 years ago. Probably because of climate changes that made the area too dry. It was long thought that the Neanderthals made the stone tools. But a recent study shows that early modern humans are responsible for this. These arrowheads date from the last period of the Atérien and are about 30,000 years old.
