Woolly mammoth

These bones and molars are from the Woolly mammoth. The scientific name for this species is M. primigenius. This hairy elephant had huge tusks and long hair to protect itself from the cold.

Living area of the mammoth

The woolly mammoth lived in present Europe and North America, but the landscape looked quite different back then. During the ice ages, a lot of water was stored in ice caps and quite some seas where dry. Like this the mammoth was able to spread over large parts of the world.

Well preserved

These bones come from the North Sea and are well preserved. You do not have to worry about possible decay.
