Hypersthene belongs to the category of orthopyroxenes, a material that is also regularly found in meteorites. Together with bronzite, hyperthene belongs to the pyroxenes family. The name is derived from the two Greek words "hyper" which means above and "stenos" which stands for strength. Hypersthene contains both iron and magnesium in different amounts, along with other minerals such as silicon.
Beautiful shine
Depending on the direction you look at the stone, hypersthene can show different colors. The best is to turn it in your hand under the light and experience its different colors and intensities. Usually this is deep brown to grey with nice shiny lighter shades through the stone. The color depends on how you look at the stone. It is impossible to show this effect in the pictures.
