Jasper or Eldarite?
Kambaba jasper is known under various names such as eldarite or crocodile jasper and is only found in Madagascar. The name kambaba jasper has been in use for a long time, but turns out to be incorrect after investigation. The rock is not jasper at all, but a quartz with aegerine and spheres of feldspar. A composition that also occurs in Mexico, but in reversed colors. This stone is known as nebula stone. It is also sometimes claimed that Kambaba jasper is a stromatolite and therefore consists of fossil algae. However, studies have shown that it really is a volcanic rock (ryolite) and not a fossil.
