Campo del Cielo iron meteorite
This iron meteorite impacted about 5000 years ago on the border of the provinces of Gran Chaco and Santiago del Estero in Argentina. The impact created no fewer than 26 craters over an area of 60 km². The largest crater has a diameter of 70 meters and is about 5 meters deep.
Field of Heaven
The then inhabitants thought that the iron fragments came from the sun. And have named the site of the impact 'Campo del Cielo' ('Field of Heaven'). In 1576 the meteorite was (re)discovered by the Spaniards. These are recently found pieces about ten centimeters deep without standing water. As a result, rust has almost no effect on these meteorites.
