Rhodochrosite is known for its beautiful soft pink color. This typical color is caused by a manganese compound. In 1813, the mineral Rhodochrosite was first reported to have been found in Romania. However, the most beautiful Rhodochrosite comes from Argentina, where the mineral was known by the locals for much longer.
Rhodochrosite is composed of the Greek of the words: 'Rhodon' which means Pink and 'chroma' which means color. Literally 'pink color'. In Dutch this mineral is also called 'Mangaanspaat'. These pieces show a nice layered structure.
