Baltic amber is fossilized resin from coniferous trees in the Scandinavian region, approximately 44 million years old. At that time, a relatively mild climate prevailed, and coniferous forests stretched far into the Scandinavian region, with trees up to 40 meters tall. Insects encased in resin are exceptionally well preserved and have taught science a great deal about the evolutionary process between these fossil specimens and our modern-day insects.
