Beautiful fluorite from the 'Milky Way' pocket in the Diana Maria mine in Co. Durham, England. This fluorite is characterized, just like the 'Super Nova' fluorite, by the dark green with white fluorite crystals that give the whole an astronomical appearance. Spectacular is the color change in daylight: these crystals change color entirely from dark green to deep purple, even with very little light! A picture in both daylight and artificial light!

General about Fluorite

In its pure form, fluorite is colorless, but depending on the trace elements, fluorite can have different colors. Thus, fluorite can have the colors purple, green, yellow, blue, or even red.

Fluorescence

Fluorescence was first studied in fluorite, and the phenomenon is therefore named after the mineral. Most fluorite changes color only under the light of a UV lamp. This fluorite reacts so strongly that even the UV light from daylight causes a color change!
